National Lutheran Association
on Scouting

Welcome to the home of the NLAS.
We are a resource for youth and adults who  wish to know more about the religious emblems program, endorsed by the Lutheran Churches for members of Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts  USA, 4H and Camp Fire USA.

  • The Winter 2008 Lutheran Scouting (2MB) is available now.
  • The minutes for the November Executive Board meeting are available.
  • PRAY has published the 4th Quarter Boy Scout bulletin and the 4th Quarter Girl Scout bulletin. There is lots of new information. Please check it out.
  • The Lutheran Recognition of Excellence for Lutheran units has been updated, please take a look.
  • There will be a Scouting Conference in 2008 at the Philmont Training Center. A flyer for the conference is available. Use this request for your attendance at the conference.
  • The FISH is the newest piece of the GSUSA and the BSA puzzle patch.

The puzzle patches are designed to promote the religious awards programs. Both youth and adults may earn these patches by learning about religious awards and making a commitment.

  • PRAY has announced the To Serve God patch. For more information and to order brochures. The purpose of this patch is to learn about and promote the religious awards programs.
    The requirements are simple:
    1)     Attend or make a presentation on religious awards, and
    2)     Make a commitment “To Serve God”
Both girls and adults may earn this patch. It is available to girls and adults of all faiths. This patch signifies that the wearer has learned about the religious awards programs and has made a commitment. This patch does not replace the religious awards. On the contrary, P.R.A.Y. hopes that this patch will increase usage of the religious awards.
  • Duty to God Promotion Patch
Now is a good time to promote religious emblems. Make a presentation to get your Scouts ready to earn their religious emblems. This is a good chance to keep them involved. Scouts have more time in the summer and plenty of service opportunities with their religious organizations. Plan now to build religious emblems into your summer plans.
There is still time to get the first segment if your Scouts haven’t received their Duty to God Promotion Patches. The first segment (with the kneeling Scout) will only be sold through July 2006. The second segment (with the sun on the mountain) becomes available on August 1st. The patches are on a four-year cycle. Make sure your Scouts get their first segment before August!
