
Lutheran Recognition of Excellence (LRE) Unit Award
Purpose:
To recognize outstanding Girl Scout troops, American Heritage Girls, Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Explorer posts and Venturing crews that are chartered by Lutheran congregations or other Lutheran.
LRE Criteria
To earn the Lutheran Recognition of Excellence Award, a Scout unit must meet the following criteria within the past twelve (12) months (since the last charter renewal):1. Journey to Excellence Award (For Scouting America Troops Only): Earned the Journey to Excellence Award at the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level.
2. Religious Emblems Participation: At least 10% of the registered youth members of the unit have completed or are enrolled in the appropriate Religious Emblems Program for their age level and religious affiliation.
3. Religious Emblems Counselor: The pastor serves as the Religious Emblems Counselor or has appointed someone to serve in that role for the God and Me, God and Family, God and Church, and God and Life Religious Emblems Programs.
4. Scout Sunday & Service Projects: The unit participated in the local Lutheran congregation’s Scout Sunday observance and completed at least one service project for the chartering Lutheran organization.
5. Worship Opportunities: The unit provided regular worship opportunities during camping trips and outings, ensuring appropriate religious settings for banquets, ceremonies, and other unit events, including prayer at pack, den, troop, crew, and leader meetings.
6. Liaison/Chartered Organization Representative (COR): The COR must be a communicant member of the chartering Lutheran congregation, or a member of a local Lutheran congregation for other Lutheran organizations.
7. Chaplain Aide(s): The Chaplain Aide(s) must be trained and actively working with a Lutheran pastor, youth minister, or designated layperson.
