President’s Perspective
from Lutheran Scouting newsletter, Vol. 33, No. 4 (Spring 2026)
My fellow Lutheran Scouters,
I am often asked why I continue to go to conferences for church, or why teach Scouts the Religious Emblems Programs, or why I continue to talk to people about Christ, or why would I spend two weeks, camping in a tent, to work at Jamboree. My answer? Well, that usually goes something like: I enjoy working with youth; I enjoy learning more at the conferences; I enjoy telling people about Christ. But it is harder to explain why anyone would be willing to spend two weeks tent camping, taking cold showers, getting sweaty, fly and mosquito bitten, sun burnt, and hiking to and from camp to your work station. Most people would think that I am crazy, then just look at me like I am crazy. I guess I am, in a way.
I am crazy enough about Christ that I am not worried about spending two weeks camping in West Virginia, hiking, sweating, getting bitten, taking cold showers, and having the best time doing what I love most. Planting a seed.
Because you see, I am not here to grow a congregation, I am not here to take count of how many people I have brought to Christ, (that isn’t my job to begin with). I am here to plant a seed and let God do all the heavy lifting. Let the Holy Spirit work in ways that I never could. What we worry about isn’t what God is worried about. We make mountains out of molehills and think that the world is crumbling down around us, when what we need to do is, plant a seed and let go and let God to the work.
1 Corinthians 3:6 says, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” We serve an amazing God who can do anything, if we would only let HIM.
Yours in Christ and Scouting,
Kristin Rogahn
NLAS President
