President’s Perspective
from Lutheran Scouting newsletter, Vol. 33, No. 3 (Winter 2026)
My fellow Lutheran Scouters, I would like to wish you a Happy New Year.
I hope that you all had an amazing Christmas season and enjoyed in celebrating Christ’s birth with family and friends.
Have you ever made a New Years’ resolution? How many times does that resolution start off strong only to petter out over time? It happens to all of us. We have a resolve to start a better lifestyle, work out more, change eating habits, read the Bible more often, be more active in our youth programs or church, and many more. Somehow life, or old habits, get in the way. Maybe we are trying too hard or are setting ourselves up for failure with expectations of grandeur.
As I have learned and our Scouts are learning this too, that if we want to change something, we must make goals that are attainable for us. Small steps or changes tend to make these goals work better for us. Instead of, I will work out more, something like, I will take a walk twice a week is more attainable. I can make time to go for a walk before I can find a two-hour time slot to travel to a gym, work out, and travel home.
The adage, “How do you eat and elephant” comes to mind: the answer, “One bite at a time.” We are at the precipice of a new year and, for me, a renewed desire to follow the path the Christ set forth for me. I pledge to listen to what God is telling me, to pay attention to opportunities that are set before me to share the wonderful news of Christ and His love.
Psalms 119:133 “Keep steady my steps according to your promise and let no iniquity get dominion over me.” This will be my resolution this year; my small steps to follow Christ in everything that I do. We lead and teach by example. May we all be a great example to all those youth and adults that we work with.
Blessings to each of you,
Yours in Christ and Scouting,
Kristin Rogahn
