President’s Perspective

from Lutheran Scouting newsletter, Vol. 34, No. 4 (Winter 2025)

My friends in Christ,
What a glorious time we have shared with family and friends. Advent has come, Christ was born, and we have celebrated each moment together as Christians. We share the news of Christ’s birth at Christmas, but it usually stops at the new year. I feel like we, as Christians, do that with Lent as well. We are so excited about Christ’s resurrection, but it only lasts for a short while, and we move on to the next spiritual high.
That is life, we have highs and lows throughout the year, and we celebrate the spiritual highs, but lament the lows. It is during this time we start praying for God to take this from me, help me to move forward, please Lord get me out of this situation? We praise God through the wonderful times but beg for him to get us out of the struggle. Those lows, or struggles are there for a reason. If we did not have them, would we appreciate the good, would we praise him during the blessings? Probably not.
Joshua 24:15, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living, but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua chose to serve God, and we all know the story of Job. Job had everything taken from him and was tested by Satan himself, but he still chose to fear and love God. How would each of us do for that type of test?
I want to make God a priority in my family. Not just a “Christmas, Easter, Sunday” type of faith. More like a “through thick and thin,” “come hell or high water,” as long as we all shall live type of faith. We will praise him through the struggles that life has to offer and praise him when all is grand with the world. Until we are truly able to say, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” God stands for us each day, and it is high time we did the same.
May God’s blessings abound in the New Year,
God be with you,
Kristin Rogahn
